Sunburst Stratocaster Custom Guitar

Parts made by Rockinger, Hannover, Germany. (circa 1984)
Rockinger Strat.

The Rockinger Strat (http://www.rockinger.com) is modeled after a 1950's classic with Swamp Ash body, finished in two-tone Sunburst. The neck is European Maple, 7.25-inch radius, vintage V-shape, with a Rosewood fingerboard. These parts were purchased at the factory in Hannover, Germany during 1984. The stock bone nut was replaced with a TUSQ nut, though not sure it made much difference.

Pickups are a set of Fender Custom Shop (CS) pickups. Bought them on eBay; the box said it was Texas Specials. On my HP4260A bridge they measured out as follows: Bridge:6.70K/2.94H/Q=4.0, Middle:6.18K/2.66H/Q=3.0, Neck=6.0K/2.43H/Q=2.8. Judging from their sound and output, these are made to sound like vintage Strat pickups (typically "cool" on the output scale ... something one would expect from lower resistance/inductance winding and Alnico V rods). You may notice that these are slightly different from modern Custom Shop Texas Specials (Bridge: 6.7K/3.58H, Middle:6.5K/2.6H, Neck:6.2K/2.4H). The neck and bridge pickups were tweaked a little by adding a ferrous base plate. This plate focus the magnetic field differently at the string-end pole pieces. The resultant sound appears a bit warmer and richer. These vintage pickups sound nice and bright with the Swamp Ash body and especially nice with Ernie Ball Power Slinkys.

A recent addition to this guitar is a Trem King tremelo mechanism. The sound and added sustain that such a hard-tail bridge produces is worthwhile, also, this new mechanism makes practical use of whammy possible. Although not perfect, it does go a long way to staying and keeping in tune.

This guitar is simply a pleasure to play; narrow neck, great bright sound, and easy action.
