There have been lots of discussion of practical, real-world FSK demodulators in the past. The FM discriminator and filter-type approaches both appeared in classic HF modems and have their following. There are subtle differences though; matching demodulator filter shape to transmitted signal characteristics has advantages -- chiefly the ability to reduce some in-band interference. For additional background on this type of "matched filter" type of design see.
