Our journey started in Eugene, OR, then travelled through Seattle, WA, to
Atlanta, GA. From there we flew to CapeTown via Ilha Do Sal (a tiny island in the
Cape Verde islands off the West coast of Africa.) Normally the flight from Atlanta to CapeTown is a direct flight
of about 13 hours, but due to a technical issue we
refuelled at Sal adding some 4 hours to the flight
time. Our transit time was some 34 hours.
This time we mainly toured the Cape Province which is located in
the Southern tip of the African continent. Besides visiting CapeTown and
surrounding areas, we did make a side trip
to the Southeastern coastal region that took us through pretty arid
areas. The scenery varied greatly and included spectacular mountains,
beautiful coast and lush vegitation contrasted with semi-desert
scenes. The weather was mostly sunny and hot.
The Cape region is known for its rich fauna and flora and especially its
wines. We made the best of the opportunity to taste and enjoy wonderful
wines.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
